 Recently completed, a project called Electric Seaway. This is an Innovate UK funded project along with partners Aqua SuperPower, the project is designed to prove the ability to provide rapid EV charging for boats and other marine craft across the South Coast of England where there is limited or no power supply. This was done using patented HUBZ charging technology but also for the first time integrated with existing Aqua SuperPower's existing EV chargers from Tritium.

Revolutionising Charging Acccess in Marine

ZPN Energy Partnered with Innovate UK and Aqua superpower to do a world first and that is to provide rapid EV charging for boats and other watercraft at locations where the grid supply couldn't support it and where the grid supply was constrained to the point the only way of providing this technology normally by typical grid tide EV charges would have been significant and lengthy grid upgrades.


The project was designed from the outset to use existing HUBZ charging technology and in the instance of Fowey we delivered a 50 kilowatt output from just a 7 kilowatt input. In this instance, we were supposed to receive a three phase electrical supply but in the end only two phases were available. However, that meant in effect that we only had a single phase supply but still managed rapid EV charging in an extreme rural location.

Proving that rapid, consytrained or limited grid charging isn’t just possible, it’s already here.

This is not a world first for ZPN but this is the world's only charging system that's patented specifically for operations in constrained grid and limited grid situations. HUBZ charging systems are absolutely essential in a world where limited grid supplies are increasing and all available headroom is being used up faster than it can be installed.


This is further proof that ZPN energy hubs technology is the most flexible way to maximise EV charging in constrained environments. However consider this; if HUBZ technology is applied to a normal charge station you can more than double the number of chargers for a given grid supply and even better than that we can guarantee 99% of the advertised charge rate 99% of the time when compared to a typical grid tied EV charger. Grid tied EV chargers can only achieve this at a maximum of 68% of the time limiteing users to load balancing. Even more impressively, this is at a utilisation rate in excess of 40%. Meaning more margin and happier customers.
